President John Dramani Mahama has urged African leaders to embrace bold reforms in governance and resource allocation, describing it as essential for the continent’s development.
Speaking at the launch of the Accra Reset initiative on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York, Mahama emphasized Africa’s responsibility in driving its own progress.
“A lot of responsibility rests on the shoulders of Africa itself. We need a reset in our countries. In Ghana, we have started our resets,” he said.
The initiative, themed “Accra Reset: Reimagining Global Governance for Health and Development,”highlighted Ghana’s decision to uncap its National Health Insurance Fund, unlocking GHS 3.5 billion (US$300 million) to support healthcare.
“This is a kind of innovative thinking that we need to do. We must move resources from areas that are not priority into areas that have tangible benefits for our people.”
The Accra Reset aims to challenge outdated development models and promote strategic, locally driven solutions across Africa.
