Ranking Member on Parliament’s Finance Committee, Isaac Adongo has asserted that the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)John Dramani Mahama, will not engage in a debate with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in an effort to revive Bawumia’s struggling political career.

Adongo’s statement suggests that Bawumia’s career has been tarnished by allegations of dishonesty and incompetence, making a debate with Mahama unnecessary for the NDC leader. In response to Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s challenge for a debate between John Dramani Mahama and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Isaac Adongo dismissed the idea, stating that Bawumia’s tenure as Vice President has been marked by failure and a lack of credibility due to perceived dishonesty.

Afenyo-Markin had suggested that a debate would provide Mahama with an opportunity to highlight the government’s shortcomings, but Adongo countered that Bawumia’s own record of accomplishment and trust issues make him an unsuitable opponent for a debate.

Isaac Adongo raised questions about President Akufo-Addo’s decision to avoid a debate with John Mahama in 2020, wondering if it was due to lack of preparation or fear of being held accountable for his actions. He then turned the tables on Dr. Bawumia, challenging him to face the press and answer questions about his performance, just as Mahama did, rather than seeking a debate as a way to salvage his struggling political career.
