In his address at the 28th anniversary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) yesterday, John Dramani Mahama noted that the Party will not accept the results of a flawed election.

“As the leader of the NDC, I wish to serve notice that we shall do our part to ensure that our country remains peaceful and the electoral process proceeds smoothly. But, and a big but! let nobody assume that we will accept the results of a flawed election”, he said.

Speaking on the comments made by the ex-president, Member of the NDC, Lawyer Abraham Amaliba noted that rejecting the results of a flawed elections does not mean that the party will employ violent means against a flawed election.

“There are legitimate means in ensuring that a stolen verdict can be reversed if only you have proof that the verdict has been stolen and you can prove that the system is not free and fair. We can go to court”, he told Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show.

Referencing happenings of election nullification in Malawi, he noted that it is possible for the Supreme Court to nullify flawed elections and start a fresh election in Ghana.

He noted however that the party’s focus now is to ensure that the processes leading to the general elections run smoothly. “For now we are fighting to ensure a free and fair election. We have not gotten there yet. I think that the Supreme Court will have a final opportunity to stick us together as a nation and we will give a ruling that will ensure that this country will remain united”, he added.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has sued the Electoral Commission (EC) over its decision to compile a new voters’ register. According to the party, there is no need to compile a new voters’ register and doing so will only disenfranchise people.

Meanwhile, Abraham Amaliba has expressed his disappointment in people who have criticized the ex-president for his comments on rejecting the results of a flawed election.

“I am shocked and surprised that people will find the ex-president’s statement as inflammatory. That may be borne out of ignorance. If a football match is about to begin, and one of the captains of the teams states that if the referee cheats, the team will not accept, does that make the captain irresponsible?”, he asked.
