The Women’s Caucus of the New Patriotic party in the 8th Parliament has urged the leadership of the party to maintain Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Patricia Appiagyei as Deputy Minority leader in the 9th Parliament.

During a meeting held by the Caucus, MP for Ablekuma North Constituency, Sheila Bartels noted that the Caucus has played a vital role in Parliamentary business emphasizing that their efforts resulted in the passage of the affirmative action bill aimed at ensuring the representation of women in decision making processes.

According to her, the National Council of the NPP should let the voice of the women caucus be heard whenever they are making decisions.

“We are appealing to the New Patriotic Party and especially to our National Council as decisions are going to be made. Whenever there is a decision that is being made, please let our voices be heard”.

She appealed to the leadership to consider retaining and maintaining Patricia Appiagyei as Deputy Minority leader in the 9th Parliament.

Sheila Bartels described Madam Patricia as one of the women who has given hope to a lot of women who aspire to be in Parliament because she has been able to complete five terms.

“For a lot of young women out there, it is important that they see a woman in leadership positions. We will not accept anything less than that because at every point in time when you look at the front of our bench, you will see men, we have spoken about this several times and our voices need to be heard just as the men”, she said.
