The excitement around the 2017 McDan Ga-Dangme Unity Tournament, which is played every Monday afternoon at the La Town Park, has reached its apogee as four giants crashed out to make way for the semi-finals.
The tournament, which had eight community teams from Ada, Prampram, Tema, Nungua, Teshie, La, Osu and Ga Mashie gunning for the ultimate prize, saw Tema beating Osu 5-4 on penalties to complete the list of qualified teams for the semi finals.
In the earlier games, La beat Ada 2-0 while Nungua edged past Ga Mashie 1-0 with Teshie also managing an 8-7 win over Prampram in a penalty shootout.
These results set the stage for intriguing semi-finals outings which will see La taking on their counterparts from Nungua in what promises to be a blockbuster while Teshie clash with star-studded Tema in the other semi final game.
The tournament, which seeks to foster unity among these Ga-Adangbe communities, draws several top players following the mouth-watering prize packages up for grabs where the ultimate winner goes away with $2000 while the second placed team cools off with $1,500. The overall best player gets $1000 with the fair play scooping $200.
According to the head of communications of the organizing committee, Jonathan Akrong, the tournament has received massive spectating with a lot of players exhibiting their talents.
“So far the supporters have conducted themselves in a decorous manner that needs commendation. The agenda for the tournament is to push for a united Ga-Dangme front and to unearth potential talents in the game. I urge all soccer scouts, club administrators and coaches to come and scout for talents at the La Town Park for the next three Mondays at 3pm.” Jonathan Akrong said.
The 2017 McDan Ga-Adangme Unity Tournament has attracted thousands of football loving people to the venue as the various communities have exhibited exceptional football skills and talents with players Patrick Razak, Derrick Sasraku, Samuel Sarfo, Emmanuel Amartey, Eric Kwakwa, Kenneth Owusu, Benjamin Arthur, Isaac Amoah, Wisdom Agblexo, Benjamin Fadi and Randy Anthony among other high profile players.
