As part of the Ghana-China Media Fellowship 2025, media fellows drawn from television, radio, print, and online platforms across Ghana embarked on a landmark industrial visit to China State Hualong Construction Ghana Ltd (CSHCL) on Saturday, July 19, 2025. The visit, led by Paul Frimpong, Executive Director of the Africa-China Centre for Policy and Advisory (ACCPA), offered fellows a unique opportunity to interact directly with one of the most impactful Chinese enterprises operating in Ghana.

Hosted at Hualong’s office at the GS Plaza Hotel in Accra, the session included a detailed corporate presentation, Q&A engagement with senior management, and reflections on the company’s historical and ongoing contributions to Ghana’s development.

Established in Ghana in 1985, China State Hualong has left an enduring mark on Ghana’s infrastructure landscape. From constructing national landmarks like the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and Independence Square, to building vital public health infrastructure such as the Eastern Regional Teaching Hospital and roads including the Awoshie-Pokuase Road and Teshie Link Road, the company has been a consistent development partner.

Management of CSHCL including Chen Xioaming, Chief Financial Officer, Zhang Huxiangm Deputy Manager of Planning and Development Department, and Hu Changhuai, Deputy Manager of General Office, welcomed the delegation and emphasized the company’s commitment to contributing not only to Ghana’s infrastructure but also to its people. “We have always believed in long-term cooperation built on mutual respect. Our work in Ghana goes beyond construction; it reflects a genuine partnership,” they said.

Fellows engaged Hualong’s leadership on a wide range of issues, including project delivery standards, local employment, corporate social responsibility, and sustainability practices. Many participants expressed appreciation for the openness of the engagement and the learning opportunity it provided.

Paul Frimpong, who led the delegation of the media fellows, remarked, “This visit is a critical component of our commitment to ground the fellowship in real-world exposure. For journalists to report with depth and balance, they must see, hear, and experience directly. That’s exactly what today delivered.”

The visit is one of several experiential learning components integrated into the 12-week fellowship, which is designed to build the capacity of Ghanaian media professionals in reporting effectively on Ghana-China relations. Fellows have so far engaged in thematic sessions on Chinese history, global governance initiatives, and the Belt and Road framework.

Participants described the visit as eye-opening and professionally enriching. Several fellows indicated that their perspectives had evolved after seeing firsthand the scale and diversity of Hualong’s operations, as well as the company’s strong community engagement track record.
