Merton International School holds 2022 Careers Day

High School students from Merton International School, got the opportunity to interact with professionals who are accomplished in their own field to take the students through what their roles entail, qualifications needed to pursue the various profession among other career oriented topics.

In her opening remarks, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mrs Elizabeth Baitie encouraged resource persons to share briefly an engaging account of their own path from secondary school to date.

“As the world of work continues to contemplate new career paths in the post – Covid-19 era, I urge all resource persons to hone in on soft skills that are in high demand today. In addition I hope you can share briefly an engaging account of your own path from secondary school to date.

These teenagers will no doubt, find some encouragement in your successes and challenges as they consider their own path towards a future of success. Born with a computer in one hand and social media in the other, our young teenagers have been bombarded with a lot of information.

Hopefully your gentle counsel will help them to pay attention to what is really necessary – building a strong academic foundation,’’ she stated.

Among the professionals who graced the occasion were an Engineer, Lawyers, Bankers, Public Relations and Media personalities, a Neuro Cardiologist, a former Minister of State, a Pharmacist, a Social Worker, to name a few.

Bridget Mensah a Public Relations and Media Manager at Global Media Alliance Broadcasting Company who participated in the careers day applauded the school for the initiative.

‘’It is an important step taken by the school to set the students on the right path. Choosing a career can be a daunting task for students and the careers day will put things into better perspective for the students’’ she said.

She also expressed excitement about the level of articulation showcased by the students.

‘’It was hard for me to believe that the students who came to my table enquiring about PR were from grades 7 to 12, because their understanding of issues were superb, the kinds of questions and how attentive they were throughout the entire process was great. That goes to show Ghana certainly has a future, kudos to the staff and students for the ‘Careers Day’ 2022. I am looking forward to the next edition,’’ she stated.

Also in attendance was YFM’s Brown Berry the host of Ryse N Shyne. He shared with the students his journey as an award winning entertainment show host.
