The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, appeared before Parliament to explain the recent spate of intermittent power cuts affecting residents of Asante Akim.
In his statement, the minister said the outages stem from the Juansa feeder, which supplies electricity to Asante Akim North under the Electricity Corporation of Ghana (ECG) Konongo District.
The feeder originates from the Konongo Primary substation and stretches roughly 234.5 km, a length that has led to low‑voltage conditions for customers at the far end of the line.
Between 1 April and 30 September 2025, the feeder experienced a total of eight interruptions, comprising three unplanned outages and five planned ones.
“Of these, two were caused by ECG emergency load‑shedding, one by GRIDCo load‑shedding, and two by corrective maintenance”, the minister told the House.
To address the problem in the short term, the ministry has deployed Voltage Improvement Technology (VIT) installations on the Juansa feeder.
“These installations are expected to stabilise voltage levels and improve service delivery for the affected communities,” Jinapor said.
