The Ministry of Education has strongly refuted a publication circulating on the Opera News platform which falsely attributes comments to the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, regarding the introduction of a 13th month salary for teachers.
In a statement signed by the Press Secretary to the Minister, Hashmin Mohammed on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, the Ministry described the publication as false and misleading.
The report had claimed that Haruna Iddrisu called for an additional month’s salary for teachers to improve their welfare and motivation during a policy forum in Accra on Monday.
According to the Ministry, the Minister has never made such comments at any public forum, engagement, or official interaction.
It stressed that the claims are a “blatant falsehood” and amount to deliberate misinformation and disinformation aimed at misleading the public.
The Ministry clarified that while government remains committed to improving the welfare and working conditions of teachers and other education sector workers through structured dialogue and sustainable policy measures, no proposal for a 13th month salary has been announced or advocated by the Minister.
It has therefore called on the Opera News platform to immediately retract the publication and issue an unqualified public apology to the Minister for Education and the Ministry.
The Ministry also urged the general public to disregard the false report and to avoid sharing unverified information, warning that such publications could create unnecessary confusion and concern.
The statement reaffirmed the Ministry of Education’s commitment to transparent communication and assured the public that official information would continue to be disseminated through credible and authorised channels.
