Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has announced a new set of operational measures for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) aimed at addressing financial losses accumulated over time.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, the Minister explained that the reforms are specifically designed to improve the company’s internal operations, service delivery, and procurement practices.
He disclosed that under the new administration, the Ministry has introduced a budget approval board system to ensure that all expenditures are properly monitored and aligned with approved activities. “What we have done is to realign procurement needs and insist, as Minister, that the ECG strictly adheres to the board’s approved budget ceilings,” he stated.
Mr. Jinapor further emphasized that ECG’s management has been instructed to prepare all budgets with the full consent of the board. “We’ve made it clear that we will not tolerate management awarding any contract outside the remit of the board,” he added.
