The Ministry of Health has addressed the allegations made by Member of Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa concerning a $34.9 million deal for ambulance spare parts.

In a statement issued on Thursday, July 25, they noted that the contract was originally set up by the dissolved Ministry of Special Development Initiatives with Service Auto Group Ghana Limited.

The contract covered after-sales service and maintenance for 307 Mercedes Benz Sprinter 315 CDI ambulances acquired by the government in 2019.

The Ministry’s response addresses Mr. Ablakwa’s concerns about potential corruption in the deal, which prompted him to petition the Office of the Special Prosecutor.

“Subsequently, the Ministry of Health wrote to the Ministry of Finance requesting the establishment of letters of credit for an amount of $34,904,505.00 on behalf of Service Ghana Auto Ghana Auto Group Limited for the procurement of spare parts for the 307 units of ambulances” parts of the statement read.

According to the MP, his efforts are focused on protecting the nation’s remaining funds.

He has challenged the validity of Service Auto Group Ghana Limited, highlighting that the company was registered on April 24, 2020—one year after the ambulances were commissioned in 2019.
