The Mobile Money Advocacy Group (MoMAG) has issued a firm public statement disassociating itself from unauthorized charges allegedly imposed by some mobile money agents during cash withdrawal transactions
According to reports received by MoMAG, certain agents have been demanding a 1% fee from customers under the false pretence that the charges are in support of MoMAG’s initiatives.
MoMAG has unequivocally denied any association with this practice, labelling it as misleading and exploitative.
“We do not authorize any agent to collect additional fees beyond the standard charges already deducted by the system,” the statement read. “Any claim that these fees benefit MoMAG is completely false.”
The organization has advised all mobile money users to adhere strictly to the system-generated fees and to refuse any further payments demanded by agents.
Customers who encounter such unauthorized charges are encouraged to report the incidents to their respective service providers or to MoMAG directly.
MoMAG reaffirmed its commitment to integrity and transparency in Ghana’s mobile financial services and pledged to take appropriate action against agents exploiting unsuspecting customers.
The advocacy group calls on the public to remain vigilant and cooperative as efforts continue to safeguard a fair and trustworthy mobile money ecosystem.
