The first batch of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), whose tenure has ended to pave way for a new batch, has presented illegal firearms seized during their operations to the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak.
Receiving the items, Muntaka commended the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and the NAIMOS team for their efforts in the fight against illegal mining.
He said the seized firearms would be handed over to the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons for proper marking and destruction in line with the law.
The Interior Minister assured that all confiscated items, particularly excavators seized during anti-illegal mining operations, would be subjected to the necessary legal processes and publicised in the national dailies.
Muntaka urged Ghanaians and mining communities to support government’s efforts and the work of NAIMOS, stressing that illegal mining continues to pose serious threats to the environment and human lives.
He also encouraged the new batch of NAIMOS officers to execute their duties professionally and with integrity to help achieve the objectives of the initiative.
