The rate at which the COVID-19 cases in the world is rising is quite alarming and Ghana is no exception. Prior to COVID-19, 2020 has been regarded as Ghana’s election year. But with the turn of events, many expect a focus on combating the virus before delving into politics.

Even so, the Coronavirus outbreak in the country has been highly politicized by various groups in the country, ranging from which Government is able to handle crisis better to how the country’s finance is being spent to fight the virus.

Speaking on the issue of politicizing the Coronavirus pandemic in Ghana, Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini is of the view that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo set the tone for politics around COVID-19.

He told Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show on Happy FM, saying, “the first statement by the President was themed in politics-we know how to bring the economy back but we don’t know how to bring back people’s lives. It is true but it is a political statement .Anytime he addresses the nation, he drops a carrot”.

As a justification for criticizing the Akufo-Addo’s fight against the Coronavirus, Inusah Fuseini mentioned that he, as any other citizen had the duty to hold the President accountable on how he used the state’s money in fighting COVID-19.

“We gave the President the power to make decisions in terms of finances in order to fight the virus. We have the responsibility to hold the President accountable. After giving him that power over our finances, we also have to ask him how the money was spent”, he said.

He added that he can challenge the President on his statement as in his opinion, the President’s decisions over the past few years in power had caused collapse of indigenous banks and microfinance institutions as well as unemployment.
