The National Communications Authority (NCA) has disclosed that Ghana has 763 authorised FM broadcasting stations as of the second quarter of 2025, with 539 currently in operation.
In its latest update released on Thursday, September 11, the NCA revealed that commercial radio stations dominate the landscape, accounting for 548 authorisations. They are followed by 155 community stations, 31 public stations, and five public (foreign) stations.
Additionally, 24 FM stations operate on university and college campuses, serving as platforms for both education and community engagement.
The Authority explained that while licences are granted upon meeting regulatory requirements, not all authorised stations are on air. This accounts for the gap between the total authorised stations and those actively broadcasting.
