The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey has stated that the actions of the Electoral Commission (EC) represent a broader strategy designed to secure a parliamentary majority for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) by suppressing opposition candidates.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra, he emphasized that the EC’s actions in Amenfi Central are the latest in a series of calculated moves aimed at delivering a parliamentary majority to the NPP by any means necessary.

He described the disqualification of Joana Gyan Cudjoe as a blatant attempt to gift the Amenfi Central seat to the NPP, drawing parallels to similar tactics employed in the SALL case in Hohoe.

He condemned the EC’s conduct as not mere incompetence but as a deliberate, premeditated, and unlawful effort to skew the electoral playing field.

He accused Jean Mensa and her associates of operating with impunity, emboldened by the NPP’s influence and a belief that they can abuse their power without consequences.

He declared that the NDC views the situation as a war against democracy. He stressed that they are not fighting for a mere parliamentary seat but for the very soul of Ghanaian democracy and the fundamental right of every Ghanaian to fair representation. He urged that no institution, regardless of its power, should be allowed to trample on the will of the people.

He said the NDC is prepared to take a stand against what they perceive as unlawful actions by the EC. He made it clear that the party would not remain passive while the EC, in collusion with the NPP, undermines democracy through unjust decisions. He asserted that the NDC recognizes the agenda at play and is committed to combating it vigorously.

He announced that the leadership of the NDC, including presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama, has given direct orders to their legal team to take the EC to court. This directive is not merely a request but a firm command to protect the integrity of the electoral process and ensure that the people of Amenfi Central receive the representation they deserve.
