The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been accused by the National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Yamin of an illegal deployment of 200 soldiers to constituencies within the Ashanti Region.

Yamin who engaged the press at the NDC Ashanti regional secretariat, alleged that the NPP deployed these soldiers overnight in cars without number plates into thirty four constituencies of the said region.

“The NPP wants to have the upper hand in the elections to be held on December 7. The NPP deployed 200 men from Accra who have no business with tomorrow’s elections along 34 constituencies in the Ashanti Region.” he said.

According to the NDC National Organizer, these soldiers were transported in a fleet of cars led by NPP officials instead of being deployed by the Ghana Armed Forces as an official assignment. “How were they brought to the Ashanti Region as military personnel with normal vehicles and not military vehicles; how are they led by NPP officials; how can they be brought here clueless of why they have been brought to the Ashanti Region,” he quizzed.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces in a statement released on Thursday, December 6, 2024 has announced that no military personnel would be stationed at any polling station for the upcoming 2024 elections, unless at the request of the Ghana Police Service.
