The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has extended its congratulations to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following the successful conduct of its presidential primaries, which resulted in former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerging as the party’s flagbearer for the December 2028 presidential election.
In a statement issued in Accra on Sunday, February 1, 2026, and signed by NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah, the party commended the NPP for organising a peaceful, violence-free electoral process.
“The National Democratic Congress hereby congratulates the opposition New Patriotic Party for the successful organisation of a violence-free presidential primaries that produced former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s candidate for the December 2028 presidential election,” the statement noted.
The NDC also lauded the Ghana Police Service for what it described as “remarkable and efficient” security arrangements that contributed to the smooth conduct of the primaries.
According to the statement, the NDC welcomes continued collaboration among political parties, including the NPP, in efforts aimed at strengthening and deepening Ghana’s democratic governance.
The party further acknowledged the concession statements issued by candidates who were unsuccessful in the contest, expressing the hope that they would maintain the spirit of reconciliation reflected in their remarks.
“We have taken note of the reconciliatory concession statements from the other unsuccessful candidates and hope they will honour their words,” the statement added.
