NDC Flagbearership filing fee ‘outrageous’ – Namoale cries

Former Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon constituency, Nii-Amasah Namoale, has describe as outrageous the decision by the National Executive Council (NEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to concluded at their meeting on Wednesday, November , 29 that nomination forms should be sold at GHS20,000 while candidates will have to pay GHS400,000 as the filing fee.

According to him, the decision by NEC will deter the ordinary Ghanaian from joining the Party and will make the NDC as a social democrat party unattractive.

Speaking on ‘Happy FM’s Epa Hoa Daben’ show, Namoale said, “NEC decision for Flagbearer to pay GHS420,000 is outrageous. It will deter the ordinary Ghanaian from joining the Party. They must reduce it drastically.”
He also asserted that reducing the filing fees to GHS100,000 is still expensive.

“This tells us that a civil servant cannot be a flagbearer of the NDC. A party that that calls itself a social democrat party is rather deterring the populace. From what NEC is saying if you have ideas and you don’t have money you can never lead the NDC,” he opined.

Namoale therefore called on all the Flagbearer hopefuls of the NDC to join forces to petition major stakeholders of the party to compel NEC to reduce the filling fee drastically.

The Flagbearership election of the NDC which was originally scheduled for December 7, 2018, has been put on hold to allow the newly elected national officers some time to plan for the presidential primaries.

The NDC a couple of weeks ago went to Congress and elected new national officers led by Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, to steer its affairs for the next four years.

The congress, which started on Saturday, November 17, ended in the wee hours of Monday, making it the most enduring delegate’s congress NDC has organised in history.
