NDC Press Conference on Election Results Collation Needless – Mahdi Gibril

Deputy National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahdi Gibril, has described the press conference held by his own party today October 11, as needless and waste of resources.

The election directorate of the NDC revealed at the press conference today (Tuesday) that, the party did not have in existence an electronic system of collating results.

Speaking Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show the Party Deputy National Organizer seemed to be incensed about the press conference. “The press conference today was needless. There many things we must have discussion on, not what they did today. Discussing or attributing the loss of election 2016 to inexistence or failure of electronic system of collating results, will that change the election 2016 result,” he quizzed.

However, Gibril questioned the seriousness of the Party, stating that “Are we serious as a party? There are lots of things we must talk about, Bawumia is travelling with huge delegation, Vigilantism, the depreciation of the cedi and others for us to discuss not what happened in 2016.”

Acting director of elections for the NDC, Bede A. Ziedeng, addressing the press indicated that, the infrastructure for the collation of results directly from the polling station in national elections does not exist in the NDC, and so could not have been deployed in the collation of results of the 2016 elections.

“What happened, however was that during the 2016 elections, there was an attempt to establish a new infrastructure for the collation of results from the polling stations. But this was completely outside the directorate and the elections directorate was not involved in its management.”
