NDC will cancel free SHS – Yaw Buabuen Asamoa reiterates

Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Buaben Asamoa says the free Senior High School policy will be under threat if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) wins at the December 7 polls.

According to him, the opposition NDC has no idea on funding the free SHS policy and are generally ignorant on the policy.

He mentioned this in the party’s weekly meet the press held at Alisa Hotel, updating citizens on the work of the ruling government over the past years.

Referencing the NDC’s promise to cancel the double track system in seven (7) months should they regain power, Yaw Buaben Asamoa asked, “You have not built new buildings but you want to cancel double track. How?”

Justifying the need for the double track, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Adentan Constituency, indicated that the free SHS policy resolved instances where qualified students could not enter into SHS and drop outs all because of financial constraints. “And the large numbers necessitated the double track system to make room for these students”.

“The NDC said they will cancel the double track system in seven (7) months. What will happen to the students? Will the kids of the NDC loyalists be affected? The NDC have not critically thought of the free SHS policy. They do not know how to fund the policy and will cancel it if they win the elections”, he gave reasons why the NPP should be retained in power.

The Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former President, John Mahama, has assured that he will, within one year in office, eliminate the double track system that has plagued the smooth implementation of the Free Senior High School (SHS) Programme.

To achieve his target the former President explained that his government will embark on a fast-track programme to complete the abandoned Community Day Schools, expand infrastructure in existing schools, and include private schools in the Free SHS programme.
