Dozens of newly recruited teachers from the 2022 batch of Colleges of Education and university graduates have picketed at the Jubilee House, demanding payment of salary arrears ranging from nine to thirteen months.

The protest began early Tuesday, September 30, at Obra Spot near Nkrumah Circle, with demonstrators marching to the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Finance before converging at the presidency to press their demands.

Lead convener Simon Kofi Nartey said the action follows the expiration of their September 23 deadline, which passed without any response from authorities.

“We cannot continue working without salaries. This protest is our last option, and we are heading to the Jubilee House to demand the President’s intervention,” Nartey stated.

Among the protesters was Rose, a visually impaired teacher, who shared her ordeal.

“Since our appointment in December 2024, we have not received any pay. We’ve borrowed to survive, and even our rent is due. We are suffering beyond words.”

The teachers emphasized that the delay not only affects their livelihoods but also undermines the quality of education, as many struggle to afford transportation and accommodation.
