Nine individuals comprising eight men and one woman have been remanded into custody by an Accra Circuit Court following their alleged involvement in violent disturbances in Nkwanta, Oti Region.
The accused Evans Mawugbe, Donkor Ebenezer, Solomon Amenu, Robert Dzanka, Kenyenso Senyo, Edwin Yeboah, Yudah Adule, Keteke Joshua, and Grace Ordzi—are facing charges that include conspiracy, rioting with weapons, causing harm, and general public disorder.
Their arrest stemmed from a joint security operation by the Police, Military, and National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), which was launched to enforce a curfew after tensions spiked in the area.
According to ASP Seth Frimpong, the prosecution alleges that on June 26, the group tried to perform unauthorized rituals at the Yam Market, sparking chaos that led to significant property damage.
Gunshots were fired during the melee, injuring multiple residents, including a man known as “Commando” and three others.
Sadly, one unidentified male victim later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The court, presided over by Judge Isaac Addo, did not take the accused’s pleas and ordered that they be held in custody until their next appearance on July 21, 2025.
Investigations are still underway, and additional suspects are believed to be at large.
