The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced that no military personnel would be stationed at any polling station for the upcoming 2024 elections.

GAF made this announcement in a recent release, which explained that the move comes as part of plans to maintain national security and peace during the election period.

The release which was signed by Brigadier General of GAF, E Aggrey Quashie explained that the military will standby for the Ghana Police Service to deploy officers to the various polling stations and ensure a smooth voting process. “GAF’s presence will be limited to standby support, with the primary responsibility for election security remaining with the Ghana Police Service. The military will only be deployed upon request by the GPS.”

GAF by this notice, urges the public at the sight of any military personnel on grounds purposely identifying themselves as GAF personnel or any individual seen in military patterned attire to report at the nearest police station or call the GPS toll free numbers 18555 or 0800 311 311.

The Ghana Armed Forces expresses its key mandate in safeguarding the stability and sovereignty of the state and also encouraged Ghanaians to exercise their civic duties in a peaceful manner by refraining from any acts that could disrupt the peace.
