The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is gearing up for its highly anticipated National Delegates Congress on Saturday, July 19, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, its first major national gathering since the 2024 electoral setback.
In a surprising turn, former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will deliver their remarks virtually, having been unable to attend the Congress in person due to circumstances deemed “beyond their control.” Party officials confirmed that both leaders will address the gathering via video link.
President Akufo-Addo remains outside the country and is unable to return in time. Former President Kufuor, fresh off the launch of the Patriotic Institute, will also speak remotely.
Thousands of party delegates from all 16 regions are expected to convene for strategic discussions aimed at rebuilding party cohesion and redefining its path forward ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The Congress, themed “Rebuilding Together with Our Values,” will spotlight:
– Constitutional reforms proposed by the Mike Oquaye Committee
– Long-awaited amendments from the 2019 Kumasi Congress
– A renewed commitment to grassroots engagement and ideological clarity
The NPP’s top leadership officially informed members about the virtual speeches during their July 9 meeting, setting the tone for a Congress focused not just on reflection but reinvention.
