Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Efutu Constituency, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to move beyond sympathy and focus on rebuilding the party following its defeat in the 2024 general election.

In a Christmas message to party supporters, Mr. Afenyo-Markin reflected on the NPP’s loss and urged members to draw critical lessons from the outcome, particularly the importance of unity.

“My dear patriots, the time for sympathy has passed, and the time for action has now arrived,” he said, emphasizing that the party must recognize that unity is essential for success and should guide its future conduct, decisions, and internal conversations.

“As a party, we should have learned an important lesson, which is that unity is worth fighting for and sacrificing for. The pursuit of unity leads to victory. These lessons must now guide our conduct, choices, and conversations,” he stated.

Afenyo-Markin noted that the party had reached a crucial turning point and that the resolve shown by its members would shape the next phase of its development.

He addressed long-standing public perceptions about the party’s readiness for power, urging members to demonstrate maturity and discipline through their actions rather than words.

“Time after time, observers have questioned whether our party is ready for power. Let us prove to them that we have an answer, and that answer is a resounding yes, not yes by mouth, but through our acts and conduct,” he said, calling for tangible actions to showcase the party’s preparedness.

Looking ahead to the party’s upcoming flagbearer primaries, the Minority Leader appealed to party faithful to protect the NPP’s traditions and values.

“Therefore, as we prepare for our upcoming flagbearer primaries, let us treat our party and its traditions as sacred. What our forebearers put together with their sweat and blood, let no party member put asunder,” he added.
