The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has suspended Christopher Arthur, its 2024 parliamentary candidate for Agona West, over a violation of internal party directives.
Mr. Arthur won the NPP parliamentary primary held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, defeating the incumbent MP, Cynthia Morrison. Following her defeat, Morrison chose to contest the general election as an independent candidate.
The party explained that Mr. Arthur’s suspension followed his disregard for a clear instruction issued by the General Secretary, Mr. Justin Kodua Frimpong, which barred all political engagements ahead of the official opening of nominations.
Despite this directive, the party said Arthur went ahead to organize an electoral area meeting on Sunday, July 6, 2025, an act the party considered a direct breach of its regulations and administrative discipline.
In a letter addressed to the candidate, the party stated that Arthur had been advised to desist from undertaking any official duties or presenting himself as a representative of the party throughout the suspension period.
Party officials further indicated that Arthur’s actions demonstrated a clear lack of respect for the authority of the General Secretary and posed a threat to the internal cohesion and strategic efforts of the NPP as it prepares for the next general election.
