Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif has explained that he did not authorize the shut down of the Accra Sports Stadium in December 2023.
The National Sports Authority under the stewardship of Professor Peter Twumasi denied football clubs access to the Accra Sports Stadium to make way for the December 2023 musical concerts particularly the 5Th Dimension program by Stonebwoy.
The NSA’s decision was heavily criticized as it forced Accra-based teams, Hearts of Oak and Great Olympics to move their home games against Asante Kotoko to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
Reacting to the incident at the Public Accounts Committee on Monday, February 5, 2023, the Sports Minister said the NSA acted without his authorization.
“I did not authorize the decision to shut Accra Sports Stadium to football clubs,” the Sports Minister stated.
