Nsawam lands saga: Lands were acquired legally; you can go to court – Konadu dares demonstrators

Former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, has dared some residents of Adoagyir, Akwamu, Owuraku and Ntoaso in the Eastern Region, to go to court if they strongly believe that she has unlawfully taken over their lands.
The residents of the community on Wednesday morning demonstrated against the former first lady accusing her of  illegally given out their lands to KOANS Estate without their knowledge.
According to the angry residents, they feel cheated over the act since no consultation was done to that effect.
They further indicated that on 22nd February, 1977 the erstwhile Supreme Military Council compulsorily acquired a land by executive instrument E.I 31 State Lands (Nsawam site for Pineapple production) instrument, 2977 containing an approximate area of 635.20 acres at Nsawam in the Eastern region.
But the residents claim that they are being constantly terrorized by land guards since KOANS Estate was given the lands by the former first lady.
They have described the situation as pathetic and scary.
Reacting to the allegations, aide to Mrs. Rawling, Ernest Owusu Bempah, has denied the claims and dared the demonstrators to go to court.
Speaking in an interview Mr. Owusu Bempah said: “It was acquired by legal means and it wasn’t under the military regime at all and the custodians of the land know that they sold those lands to the 31st December Women’s Movement which is an entity, an NGO, to develop those lands and it is clear. That is why when they went to court the judges in their own wisdom ruled in favour of the 31st December Women’s Movement and everybody is aware of that.
“So, if you have issues and if you disagree with a court ruling, you can go and appeal but resorting to unnecessary demonstrations will not solve the problem. Those lands do not belong to Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings and to say she personally owns those lands; that is wrong.”
The 770-acre property stretches from Nsawam Cannery all the way to the KOANS Estate enclave.
