Traders at the Obuasi Black Park are calling on security personnel to intensify patrols in the area to prevent criminal activities and fire outbreaks, which they say threaten their livelihoods.
This call came during a clean-up exercise organized by the Obuasi Black Park Unity Association to improve hygiene in the market.
Speaking to the media after the exercise, the chairman of the association, Martin Nenkpeng-Nore, said the traders cannot operate in filth, hence the decision to come together and clean their workspaces. He revealed that armed robbers frequently target them both day and night.
Mr. Nenkpeng-Nore appealed to the Obuasi Police Commander and the Municipal Chief Executive to deploy officers to the area to ensure regular patrols and enhance safety.
“We can’t sit and watch while thieves and fire threats destroy our businesses. We need security to work in peace,” he stressed.
The traders are hopeful that authorities will respond swiftly to their appeal to ensure their safety and that of their customers.
