The Old Vandals Association of the Commonwealth Hall of the University of Ghana has announced a postponement of their impending Jamboree which was initially slated for the Tuesday 1st of July, 2025. The change in date, according to the Greater Accra Regional Vice President of the association, Andy Akwetea, is as a result of the declaration of 4th of July, 2025 as public holiday.
In an exclusive interview on the Happy Morning Show on Friday 27th of June, 2025, Mr. Akwetea revealed it is imperative all Old Vandals make it a point to attend the upcoming Jamboree under the theme, “The Return of Vandalism: Resetting the Agenda for Positive National Development”, to reignite the rich culture of vandalism amongst all past and present residents of the Commonwealth Hall.
“For some of us, but for vandalism, we don’t know where would have been by now”, Mr. Akwetea intoned, saying the time is ripe for Old Vandals to stand strong in building a formidable student front for the next generation of leaders. He says most Old Vandals have benefitted from the culture of “Vandalism” and argues that it is not right for the coming generation to be denied such benefits.
Mr. Akwetea, however, shared that the vile misconception about the culture and institution of “Vandalism” at the University of Ghana seems to be winning the battle and portraying negative stereotypes about students who resided at the hall during their student days. But, this he says cannot be allowed any longer. “This is the time for us to get back on our feet” he gestured imploring on past residents of the Commonwealth Hall of the University of Ghana to stand up for what is right.
According Mr. Akwetea, the prevailing circumstances call a dedicated and strong commitment to resurrecting the spirit of vandalism and he believes that the new era of vandalism begins with the upcoming jamboree which is now slated for the 4th of July, 2025 at the University Staff Village School Park.
Preceding the main event will be a clean-up exercise with support from the famous BuzStop Boys in the morning of 4th of July, 2025. This will be followed by the main event which kicks off at 10am prompt.
The Special Guest of Honour for the Jamboree is H.E. John Dramani Mahama. The event will be chaired by Justice Anin Yeboah, a former Chief Justice and an Old Vandal. Speakers at the will include the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu – Keynote Speaker and the Deputy Education Minister, Dr. Clement Apaak – speaker.
All Old Vandals of the Commonwealth Hall of the University of Ghana and Ghanaian that love development are all invited to attend this jamboree.
