Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has reaffirmed his commitment to resolving the longstanding conflict in Bawku, assuring that peace will soon return to the troubled area.

His remarks come after efforts to mediate between the feuding factions were temporarily put on hold due to the complexities surrounding the chieftaincy dispute that has fueled tensions in the Upper East Region.

Speaking at a meeting with a delegation from the UK Advanced Command and Staff Course at the Manhyia Palace, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II expressed confidence in the ongoing mediation efforts, highlighting the vital role of traditional authorities in conflict resolution.

“We need peace to develop. My duty, together with the traditional authority, is to make sure that there is peace everywhere. Therefore, we make sure that we adjudicate issues when there are conflicts everywhere so that the government can also have peace to do its work”.

The protracted Bawku conflict, which has seen repeated cycles of violence over the years, remains a security concern for Ghana, particularly given its proximity to Burkina Faso.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II assured that his engagement with the warring factions would continue, and every effort would be made to secure a lasting resolution.
