Israeli forces have set up refugee camps for Palestinian settlers, after destroying their homes in the West Bank region from the Tulkarm, Nur Shams and Jenin – in effect displacing over 40,000 people.
According to Reuters, Israel says it is acting against flashpoints of militancy, including the northern cities of Tulkarm and Jenin.
The refugees who are given a two hour time limit daily are expected to salvage what they can from the rubble of what used to be their homes.
Palestinian Governor, Major General Dr. Abdullah Kamil has been a vocal critic of the Israeli demolitions and military operations in the region. He reveals that the demolitions are purely political aiming at aligning the territory under Israel’s authority.
Israeli demolitions have drawn widespread international criticism and coincide with heightened fears among Palestinians of an organised effort by Israel to formally annex the West Bank, the area seized by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war.
