The Accra Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Eastern Regional Police Command, has arrested seven members of a notorious highway robbery syndicate believed to be behind a series of violent robberies across parts of the Greater Accra, Eastern and Ashanti regions.
In a press statement issued by the Regional Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service on January 10, 2026, the police said, the suspects are linked to several armed robbery attacks targeting motorists, trailer drivers and residents along major highways.
Police said the syndicate was involved in an armed robbery incident on November 29, 2025, at Peduase in Aburi, where the suspects attacked a residence and robbed occupants of mobile phones, jewellery and an unspecified amount of cash while wielding firearms.
Following intelligence-led investigations, personnel from the Eastern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID), working together with their Accra Regional counterparts, arrested one of the suspects, Kofi Ishmael, aged 30, at Avenor in Accra on January 6, 2026.
During interrogation, he admitted his involvement in the Peduase robbery and other related crimes.
Further intelligence led to the arrest of another suspect, Kwame Bediako, at Ablekuma Agape. A search conducted at his residence uncovered a pump-action gun concealed in a fence wall, along with four BB cartridges.
Police said the suspect also confessed to participating in several robbery operations.
Investigations revealed that the group carried out multiple highway robberies along the Tema Motorway, Achimota Forest Road, Pokuase, Amasaman, Suhum, Nkawkaw and the Juaso–Kumasi stretch.
The suspects disclosed to police that they were preparing to embark on another robbery operation at the time they were arrested.
The seven suspects currently in police custody are Salia Mohammed, also known as Kwaku Nuah, aged 27; Kofi Ishmael, also known as Ishmael Addo and Kofi Ketewa, aged 32; Kwame Bediako, also known as Star Boy and Nkokorpor, identified as the ringleader; Kwadwo Kalovi, also known as Aticho; Mumuni Abdul Razak, also known as Mogambo, aged 39; Kwasi Akambuley, also known as Kwasi Fresh, aged 27; and Kwame Bonsu, also known as Killer Ntua.
One of the suspects is currently on admission receiving medical attention.
Police investigations have also linked the suspects to previous robbery cases involving attacks on market women and motorists, including a fatal robbery incident in which a driver lost his life.
Some members of the gang are reported to have jumped bail in earlier cases that are still pending before the courts.
Exhibits retrieved so far include firearms, ammunition, machetes, knives, mobile phones and other items suspected to be proceeds of crime.
Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest other accomplices who are currently at large.
The Accra Regional Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to dealing decisively with criminal activities and has appealed to anyone with information that could aid ongoing investigations to report to the nearest police station.
