The Accra Regional Police Intelligence Unit has begun investigations into a robbery attack on a food delivery rider at Tantra Hill in Accra on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
Police said the rider was delivering food from an eatery at Achimota to a location in Tantra Hill when he was accosted by two men riding on a motorbike. One of the suspects, wielding a machete, struck the rider on the back with the blunt side of the weapon and threatened to kill him if he resisted.
The attackers made away with the rider’s motorbike and a Samsung A05 mobile phone. The victim sustained injuries to his left hand and subsequently reported the incident to the police.
Following swift intelligence-led operations, the police arrested a 29-year-old suspect, Akwesi Atanzumi, on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Agbogbloshie, where he was allegedly attempting to sell the stolen motorbike. During interrogation, Atanzumi confessed to his involvement in the robbery and mentioned an accomplice identified only as Shadrach, who is currently on the run.
The stolen motorbike has since been retrieved and is being kept as evidence, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspect.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, December 23, the Accra Regional Police Public Affairs Officer, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, reaffirmed the police’s commitment to tackling violent crime and ensuring the safety of residents, particularly delivery riders who are increasingly targeted by criminals. She appealed to the public to report any suspicious activities and advised riders to take additional security measures to protect themselves and their property.
Police investigations continue as efforts intensify to apprehend the fugitive suspect and establish whether the suspects are connected
