Seventeen suspects, including seven Chinese nationals and ten Ghanaians, have been arrested in connection with illegal mining activities at Samreboi in the Western Region.
The operation was carried out on May 25, 2025, by the Special Police Anti-Galamsey Taskforce from the National Police Headquarters as part of intensified efforts to curb illegal mining.
Following their arrest, all suspects were transported to Accra to assist with further investigations.
Police believe the detained individuals may have played significant roles in the ongoing illegal mining operations in the area.
Meanwhile, the taskforce is stepping up efforts within affected communities, focusing on identifying additional persons of interest and ensuring the protection of the region’s forest reserves.
The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to supporting national efforts to eliminate illegal mining, assuring the public that operations will continue until the menace is brought under control.
