As the nation prepares for the December 7 elections, political parties and their presidential candidates have signed a peace pact aimed at ensuring a peaceful electoral process.

The signing ceremony, held on Thursday, November 28, in Accra, brought together various presidential hopefuls who pledged to maintain peace before, during, and after the elections.

The signatories included John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kofi Akpaloo, the Liberal Party of Ghana, and Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong of the National Democratic Party (NDP). Others are, Nana Akosua Frimponmaa Sarpong KumanKuma of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), independent candidates Kofi Koranteng, George Twum Berimah Adu, Nana Kwame Bediako, and Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen.

The peace pact is a significant step towards ensuring a smooth and violence-free election, as candidates with different political affiliations came together to endorse a commitment to peaceful conduct throughout the electoral period. The signing of the pact reflects a collective effort by all parties to uphold democracy and foster national unity during this critical period.

The initiative is expected to serve as a reminder to all stakeholders, including political party supporters, that peace and respect for the electoral process must take precedence over any form of electoral violence or unrest.
