The Minority has expressed dissatisfaction with the response of Samuel Dubik Mahama, the Managing Director of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), following a recent power outage which left the corridors of Parliament dark.

Minority Chief Whip and MP for Adaklu constituency, Kwame Agbodza, lamented that Parliament’s inability to settle electricity bills stems from the government’s failure to release funds.

Agbodza highlighted the dependency of Parliament on government allocations, emphasizing the institution’s lack of internal generated funds for bill payments.

Drawing attention to an interview with ECG boss Samuel Dubik Mahama, Agbodza criticized his remarks, calling them unattractive. He urged the Speaker of Parliament to intervene and compel Mahama to retract his statement.

In response, Majority Leader and MP for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, clarified that, according to his inquiries, the power outage in Parliament wasn’t a deliberate disconnection.

Afenyo-Markin stated that Mahama denied any intentional disconnection and pledged engagement with Electricity Management on the matter.

However, the Minority is demanding a briefing from the Minister responsible for energy on the broader electricity crisis facing the nation. This call comes amidst growing concerns over the recurrent power outages experienced across the country.
