The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has on Thursday, July 11, 2024 accepted the resignation of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as Minister for Energy, effective July 18, 2024. This decision enables Dr. Prempeh to focus on his new role as Vice-Presidential candidate and Running Mate to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

President Akufo-Addo expressed his sincere gratitude to Dr. Prempeh for his dedicated service to the government and the people of Ghana. Dr. Prempeh’s tenure as Minister of Education and Minister of Energy has been marked by significant accomplishments and contributions to the education and energy sectors.

Following Dr. Prempeh’s resignation, President Akufo-Addo has assigned the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Abu Jinapor, to oversee the Ministry of Energy. Additionally, the Minister-of-state designate at the Ministry of Energy, Herbert Krapa, will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Ministry. The President has directed the two officials to work closely with Dr. Prempeh to ensure a seamless transition in the ministry’s affairs.

The President extended his best wishes and blessings to Dr. Prempeh in his new role, confident that he will continue to serve the party and the nation with distinction.
