President Akufo-Addo engages in Munich Security Conference to boost security measures

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has embarked on a diplomatic mission to Munich, Federal Republic of Germany, where he will participate in the Munich Security Conference (MSC), a vital platform for global discussions on security policy, as announced by the presidency on February 14.

President Akufo-Addo’s presence at the Munich Security Conference highlights Ghana’s commitment to advancing international security measures and fostering collaboration among nations.

The MSC 2024, focusing on reinforcing the rules-based international order and countering revisionist tendencies, is particularly significant given the current global security landscape. The conference, commemorating its 60th anniversary, will feature debates, side events, and discussions aimed at addressing pressing security challenges.

Following his engagement at the MSC, President Akufo-Addo will proceed to the 37th AU Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, scheduled from February 17th to 18th, 2024.

The summit, themed “Educate an African fit for the 21st Century,” emphasizes the importance of building resilient education systems to enhance access to quality learning across Africa. President Akufo-Addo’s agenda includes hosting member states for discussions on education and AU financial institutions, along with providing updates on Ghana’s role as the host of the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area.

Accompanying President Akufo-Addo on his diplomatic mission are the First Lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, MP, and officials from both the Presidency and the Foreign Ministry.

In adherence to constitutional protocols, the presidency has confirmed that Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will act as President in President Akufo-Addo’s absence, as outlined in Article 60(8) of the Constitution. President Akufo-Addo is expected to return to Ghana on Sunday, February 18, 2024, upon the conclusion of his diplomatic engagements.
