The National Welfare Officer for the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), Benjamin Yeboah, has disclosed that prices of automobile spare parts across major markets in Ghana saw significant reductions as early as April 2025.

Speaking on Happy 98.9FM’s Morning Show with Sefah-Danquah, Mr. Yeboah noted that the cost of spare parts has had a direct influence on the pricing of various services, particularly within the transport sector. According to him, earlier discussions held between the Ministry of Trade, GUTA, and spare parts industry stakeholders revealed a series of challenges confronting both spare parts dealers and transport union executives.

He explained that the high pricing associated with popular markets such as Abbosey Okai is not a deliberate decision by local dealers but is largely driven by international suppliers. “Some of the spare parts are really rare to find but are highly needed. So the sellers leverage on the scarcity of these particular spare parts and increase the prices for these spare parts,” he revealed.

Mr. Yeboah further stated that stakeholders expressed strong interest in resolving the pricing discrepancies through a unified domestic approach. He highlighted that all parties welcomed the strategy aimed at stabilizing the market. “Prices of spare parts reduced as far back as April. Prices of many parts have seen that reduction. Knowing this, there has been a new platform created to facilitate all spare part dealers and other requisite bodies to deliberate on a standardised pricing for a spare part.”
