The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested Lincoln Nii Okaija, the prime suspect in a major drug trafficking case involving the attempted export of cannabis through Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
Okaija was apprehended at the Aflao border while attempting to flee Ghana to Togo, with plans to continue on to France. His arrest comes after an intensive manhunt and surveillance operation led by NACOC operatives.
The suspect is believed to have played a key role in the failed smuggling of 738 compressed parcels of suspected cannabis, which were intercepted at the Swissport Cargo Terminal at KIA. The parcels had been concealed in boxes labeled as assorted food items and were bound for the United Kingdom.
Authorities have confirmed that Okaija will be prosecuted under Ghana’s narcotics laws. His capture follows the earlier arrest of four other individuals linked to the case, all of whom were granted bail and placed on a Stop List to prevent their departure from the country.
NACOC has expressed gratitude to all individuals and agencies who contributed to the successful operation.
