The vice presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has questioned the Akufo-Addo-led government over its failure to deliver on the promise of building an airport in Cape Coast.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, speaking during a campaign event at Anofa in the Cape Coast South Constituency, criticized Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for what she described as unfulfilled promises made to the people of the Central Region during the 2020 elections.

She expressed disappointment at the lack of significant development projects in the region, accusing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of neglecting the Central Region over the past eight years. According to her, despite the government’s extended tenure, the region has seen little improvement and continues to face developmental challenges.

Drawing comparison, she noted that the previous NDC administration, under John Dramani Mahama, completed the ultra-modern Kotokoraba Market in less than four years. In contrast, the NPP government has been unable to complete a smaller market project in Anafo within its eight-year term, she claimed.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang urged voters in the Central Region to rally behind the NDC and its presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, in the upcoming elections. She emphasized that an NDC victory would usher in job creation initiatives, financial empowerment for women, educational reforms, and comprehensive regional development.

She further discouraged the practice of voting “skirt and blouse,” where voters choose different parties for presidential and parliamentary elections. She argued that the next Mahama administration would require a strong majority in Parliament to effectively implement its policies and deliver on campaign promises.
