Two persons who appeared before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Monday have been arrested over irregularities found in some vouchers they presented and reasons for the expenditure at the Sefwi Akontombra Assembly in the Western Region.

The arrest order was given by the chairman of PAC, James Klutse Avedzi during a live broadcast of sitting.

Isaac Akowuah and James Essilfie were sent to the Parliament Police Station, were accused by the committee of attempting to deceive the Committee during a hearing.

Giving the order Mr. Avedzi said: “You want to hold the committee to ransom; that the two of [connived] to try and deceive this committee…we are going to lock you up.”

“The police will take a statement from you and that statement will be used against you in the law court. We [the Public Accounts Committee] will not prosecute you. [Instead] The government will take over [this case],” Mr. Avedzi said.

The committee is probing expenditure by the various assemblies in 2016 as captures by the Auditor General report.
