The Social Welfare department in the Nkoranza North district, in the Bono East Region, has distributed items to persons with disability (PWDs) as part of government initiatives, typically funded by a portion of the District Assembly’s Common Fund.
This process, designed to support PWDs’ economic empowerment, education, and health needs, saw 60 beneficiaries with smiles embracing the gesture.
The assembly has purchased and disbursed items that will aid beneficiaries in engaging in income-generating activities, including fufu pounding machines, deep freezers, tilling machines, and pecuniary support for healthcare and education, valued at GH¢188,043.
Nana Yaa Pormaa Asante, Director of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, attributed the program’s success to the release of funds by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama and the DCE.
“Funds are allocated transparently and equitably, ensuring that beneficiaries receive timely and adequate support,” she expressed.
“By empowering PWDs, we aim to promote inclusion, independence, and equal opportunities,” she added.
The District Chief Executive, Effah Patrick, shared that the initiative is part of a supportive vision from President Mahama aimed at developing the lives of PWDs.
He emphasized that the government has uncapped the PWDs’ common fund, generating an increase in the number of PWDs.
“We are preparing a place for the PWDs as their workshop settlement,” the DCE hinted.
The Ghana Federation of Disability (GFD) chairman, Owusu Kwadwo James, showed gratitude to the government and the DCE for their unwavering support to PWDs.
He called on his fellows to adhere to the proper use of the items and pecuniary support.
