As the new football season kicks off in Ghana, referees are gearing up with high levels of motivation and enthusiasm, following the recent success and recognition of Julian Nunoo as the Referee of the 2022/23 season.

Enyonam Zigah, the Chairperson of the Referees Committee, expressed her pride and excitement about the state of officiating in Ghana football. In an interview on Happy FM, she stated, “We are witnessing a surge in motivation among our referees, and Julian Nunoo’s recognition at the Ghana Football Association Awards (GFA Awards) has played a significant role in boosting their spirits.”

The GFA Awards, held on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at the UPSA Auditorium in Accra, marked a historic moment in Ghana football. Among the numerous awards presented that evening, the Referee of the Season category was particularly noteworthy. Julian Nunoo, Rustum Senorgbe, and Imoro Osman were the three top contenders for this prestigious title.

Julian Nunoo, who stood out for his exceptional performance during the 2022/23 season, ultimately emerged as the deserving winner. This victory not only added another feather to his cap but also came with a remarkable reward – the keys to a brand new Hyundai Elantra saloon car.

The recognition of referees in such a grand manner demonstrates the Ghana Football Association’s commitment to promoting fair play and improving the overall standards of refereeing in the country. Enyonam Zigah emphasized, “Our referees play a crucial role in the development of football, and it’s heartening to see them rewarded for their dedication and hard work.”

Julian Nunoo’s achievement serves as an inspiration to referees across the nation. His success is a testament to the rigorous training and dedication referees put into their craft. As the new season begins, the referees are not only motivated but also determined to uphold the highest standards of officiating in Ghana football.
