WBO African champion, Emmanuel ‘Gameboy’ Tagoe, has denied challenging newly crowned IBF world lightweight champion, Richard Oblitey Commey, to a fight.
But was quick to add that the new IBF lightweight world champion cannot run away from him since they are all in the same weight category.

Richard Oblitey Commey became Ghana’s ninth boxing world champion when he dropped Russia’s Isa Chaniev last Saturday three times en route to a second-round KO for the vacant IBF belt.

Reports in a section of the media had it that, WBO African champion and Baby jet Promotions boxer, Emmanuel ‘Gameboy’ Tagoe, had challenged Richard Commey to a fight.

But the new champion Richard Commey and his management downplayed any suggestion of fighting the WBO African champion.

In an interview on Happy FM’s Wamputi sports, Emmanuel ‘Gameboy’ Tagoe denied ever challenging Richard Commey to a fight but said the new lightweight world champion cannot run away from a fight with him.

“ I never challenged Richard Commey to a fight but we are all in the same weight category, so he cannot run away from a fight with me,” he said.

Emmanuel ‘Gameboy’ Tagoe further revealed that his main target at the moment is to get a fight with Ukrainian unified lightweight champio, Vasyl Lomachenko .

“Lomachenko is my target now not Richard Commey. I am focused and aiming at a fight with Vasyl Lomachenko,”the WBO African champion revealed.

Emmanuel ‘Gameboy’ Tagoe was slated to defend his title against Russian Vyacheslav Gusev on the 26th of last month but the match was rescheduled to the 23rd of February due to an injury he suffered at training.
