Ghana’s Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has endorsed the arrest of individuals captured on video physically abusing staff of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital.
In an interview monitored by happyghana.com, the Minister stated that the conduct of the individuals involved cannot, under any circumstances, be condoned by the Ministry.
He revealed that the main assailant was invited to a closed-door meeting today, where he was given the opportunity to share his side of the story.
However, political figures have called for his arrest as investigations continue. “Demands being made for the arrest of this man are fair. And I made that call after my visit to the media, where I insisted that the law must take its own course.”
On 18 August 2025, a viral video documented relatives of an accident victim forcibly entering the Emergency Department (triage area) of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (GARH), commonly known as Ridge Hospital. The incident, sparked by frustrations over perceived delays in care, disrupted operations and escalated into verbal aggression and the physical assault of a nurse. Hospital management subsequently called in the Ghana Police Service to restore order.
