Second-tier French club Tours have tragically announced that midfielder Thomas Rodriguez has died, aged just 18.
A statement on Tours’ official website confirmed Rodriguez had died in his sleep, similar to how Davide Astori lost his life just five days ago.
The cause of death remains unknown, but his side’s match against Valenciennes on Friday has been postponed, while all Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 games this weekend will observe a minute’s silence.
Rodriguez did not make any appearances for Tours’ first team but had been described as “a player with a promising future” by his club.
