Burkinabe trainer Seydou Zerbo has revealed that he has initiated the process of taking Asante Kotoko to the world football governing body, FIFA over unpaid salary arrears spanning three months.

Zerbo was dismissed in March due to poor results, but claims to have reached an agreement with the club to receive to be paid for three months. Despite the club currently undergoing a leadership transition, Zerbo is demanding that Kotoko fulfil their payment obligation.

“I have initiated the process of taking Kotoko to FIFA in order to secure payment for my three months’ salaries. Following our defeat against Medeama in Kumasi, CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah approached me and informed me of the decision to terminate my contract. It was undoubtedly a difficult moment for me, but I had to accept it and move forward,” Zerbo expressed in an interview with Fox FM.

He further elaborated, stating, “We had an agreement that I would receive three months’ salary after the termination of my contract. However, I have yet to receive the payment.”

Zerbo was hired during the tenure of the Nana Yaw Amponsah-led management team, but their mandate has expired, and the club are currently in the process of announcing a new direction.

Zerbo was appointed ahead of the previous season, signing a one-year contract with the possibility of extending it for another year. However, his team faced difficulties in performing up to expectations, leading to his dismissal on March 27. The final blow came when Kotoko suffered a 2-0 home defeat against eventual league champions Medeama.

Kotoko entered last season as the defending champions after an impressive performance in the Ghana Premier League. They were unable to repeat their previous success, and the campaign came to an end with no trophies. As a result, they are currently restructuring in order to avoid repeating their performance in the coming season.
